The STRATEGIES FOR HOPE Trust has produced training manuals, films and case study booklets about how communities can address the great challenges of the global HIV epidemic. In many countries in sub-Saharan Africa we also support training workshops on the most effective use of our Called to Care toolkit.
All STRATEGIES FOR HOPE materials are evidence-based, well illustrated and written in user-friendly language. Almost 1.25 million copies have been distributed, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa.
The materials have included:
• The 10-part CALLED TO CARE toolkit
• The Stepping Stones training package
• The film, What can I do?
• A series of 17 case study booklets and films
These materials have helped to inspire, motivate, inform and train millions of people throughout sub-Saharan Africa during the past 26 years. Most can be viewed on this website. Together, they paint a vivid picture of how communities in sub-Saharan Africa have successfully responded to the unprecedented challenges of the HIV epidemic.
A website with a difference
This is a website with a difference, because it also tells the stories of the many different people who have contributed to the STRATEGIES FOR HOPE project since it began in 1989. They include, for example, church and community leaders, artists and writers, trainers and programme managers, translators and distributors, and – above all – users of STRATEGIES FOR HOPE materials within local communities.
These implementers of the STRATEGIES FOR HOPE project live and work throughout sub-Saharan Africa – for instance, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. New stories are added to the website every month.
We invite you to join us in learning about what communities have done – and still can do – to turn back the tide of the HIV epidemic through concerted action at community level.
